What inspired you to become a troop leader?
I always wanted to be a Girl Scout as a child but never had the opportunity to join. When the chance to be a troop leader arose, I jumped in happily!
What kind of service projects have you done with your troop?
The girls in my troop are very drawn to helping animals, so we’ve volunteered at a bunny rescue, including donating items for the bunnies and making comfort/activity items to donate to local animal shelters. The troop will be going for their Bronze Award this membership year with a yet-to-be-determined sustainable community service project.
Tell us about a volunteer moment that stands out to you.
I try to focus on creating experiences and exposure to activities the girls don’t normally get a chance to do. Every time the girls get to push themselves in a warm, safe, encouraging environment to try something new and find more strength, confidence, and ability than they knew they had, or spark a new interest, it really makes volunteering worth it!
Does your troop sell cookies? If yes, please tell us in your own words, why it is important to participate in the Cookie Program?
Yes. The Cookie Program gives girls the opportunity to work hard at a goal, the opportunity to make financial decisions, and the chance to fund their troop’s fun activities & projects. There aren’t a lot of regular life activities that these young girls would otherwise get to put in (usually fun) work hours and then be the deciders on what to do with hundreds of dollars of earnings.
What are your troop’s cookie selling tips and tricks?
Be kind and positive, and remember, selling cookies is just a small part of the Girl Scout experience. Regular life activities shouldn’t pause for cookie season.
