Troop Leader Spotlight: Cayla Padberg

Troop: 1477

Service Unit: Superstition Sunrise

Years as a troop leader: 13

What inspired you to become a troop leader?

When my daughter was 4, a friend’s daughter was selling cookies, and I asked my child if she’d like to be a Girl Scout. Her response, ‘Yes!’ Immediately followed by ‘What’s a Girl Scout?’ From that moment, we’ve been hooked.

What kind of activities do you do with your troop? What is their favorite thing to do?

We do some of everything. Exploring our city and our state, amusement parks, STEM activities, life skills, council events, and camping.

Tell us about a volunteer moment that stands out to you.

Teaching girls that failure is okay and is a part of learning, you shouldn’t expect perfection without practice, so don’t give up.

What do you wish someone had told you as a new troop leader?

Being a part of the service team is a great way to help your neighborhood and build deeper connections with the volunteers in your area.

What would you like others to know about volunteer opportunities with the Girl Scouts?

Not everyone can devote time to being a leader, but you can still help! Sometimes that means you are back up for when life happens and an extra person is needed, sometimes it’s being a point of contact to keep other parents informed.
